With active support from key industry leaders as well as government officials, the council garners a strong pursuit to foster the path for a nationwide adoption of Green Building by signifying public-private partnerships.
ABOUT THE FIRST EAST AFRICA GREEN BUILDING CONFERENCE
This conference is the first kind of its own. For the first time ever, we combined the regional forces in East Africa to address the issue of sustainability under a diverse scope. Achieving the transformative change in cities require that we urgently integrate urban design into planning policies , co-integrate nature and human economic development harmoniously as well as building and designing with nature. A transition to energy efficient buildings into its city planning on an integrated, long term and multi-scalar approach will create key green economic opportunities for East Africa.
The Council, together with Strategic Partner, GreenA Consultants would also like to thank the World Green Building Council, Architects and Quantity Surveyors Registration Board, Architects Association of Tanzania, National Housing Corporation, National Social Security Fund (Tanzania), Building and Construction Authority (Singapore), Singapore Green Building Council, PPF Pensions Fund, Association of Consulting Engineers and UN-Habitat and for their support throughout the planning of the event.
ABOUT SAY NO TO PLASTIC BAG CAMPAIGN
Apart from our advocacy in green building and waste reduction, Tanzania Green Building Council also aims to educate the public and different sectors of the community on sustainability issues to co-ordinate environmental efforts in Tanzania. This year, we have decided to run an important campaign in Tanzania to reduce the use of plastic bags in this country and provide reusable ones. The campaign will begin this month to bring light to the critical problems of waste.
Plastic pollution is one of the biggest issues concerning the environment. They are made of petrol when burning released toxics particles affecting your health. With an average utilization of 15 minutes, they pollute our air and contaminate our food and atmosphere. 6,500,000,000 kilos of plastic bags are discharged into the water each year. In Tanzania, the few sewage systems that exists disgorge their waste directly into the ocean, affecting the marine habitats. Your support is greatly needed. We are rallying for organizations as yours to join us. We will be sending reusable bags that can be rolled or folded small enough to fit easily into the pocket of Tanzanian employees to reduce the use of plastic bags. We will print the reusable bags and circulate them to participating organizations.
